The objective of this competition is to foster creativity by composers throughout the United States and to recognize and reward their accomplishments.

Three composers from the total applicant pool were chosen as the winners of this year’s competition. Each will receive a $3,500 commission to write a piece for Sybarite5 which will be workshopped and performed by the ensemble in Fall, 2016.

This year’s program generated an extraordinary response with 457 submissions from composers in 41 states. The five panelists from Sybarite5 commented on the high level of overall quality in the submission pool, making the review process both difficult and competitive. There were ten finalists, from which the following three winners were chosen:

  • Clarice Assad  (New York, NY)
  • Steven Snowden (Austin, TX)
  • Brandon Ridenour (New York, NY)
